Our Day of the Dead celebration

29.10.2021

In Ecuador, November 1st is a big celebration as it is the “Day of the Dead”. This is a time of remembrance where families honor their loved ones who have passed away.

The “Day of the Dead” is a time when families gather at the community cemetery with food offerings to remember their lost ancestors and loved ones throughout the day. The common tradition consists of eating “Guaguas de Pan” which is a typical bread, as well as drinking a hot drink made of fruits and spices, called “colada morada”. (Guagua = Quechua word meaning child).

We also celebrated the “Day of the Dead” here in SALEM Ecuador: Each child made their own guagua of bread, which we then ate all together, along with a delicious cup of colada morada.

A happy day for everyone!
