Living peace in SALEM Ecuador

27.04.2022

At SALEM Ecuador we currently work with people from seven different countries. Despite the differences in nationality, skin color, cultural background, faith, political position, etc., it is easy for us to live together as a family that has been formed with empathy and the ideology that Peace in the world is possible. Every encounter with our children, youth and families is based on loving and understanding communication.

Interculturality is not only the presence, but also the equal interaction of different cultures in the same country. It is the possibility of creating common cultural expressions through dialogue and mutual respect. A basis for peaceful coexistence.

SALEM guides integrate both the idea of peace and the concept of interculturality in their work with children. For Silvana, who takes care of the youngest children, it is important to talk about respect. “I teach my children to respect the diversity of every living being,” she says.

Sulema, leader of the youth group, explains: “It’s about learning to respect the experiences and ideas of others”.

From our point of view, interculturality is love, respect, freedom, trust, friendship, fun, honesty, community and peace. Human values that allow us to be active and have a positive attitude towards life, inclusion and equality.

We are willing to walk paths that lead us to peace!
